Today Zuffa sent a strong message to Team Golden Glory in Holland. The famed Gym is best known as being the home to StrikeForce and K-1 Champion Allistair Overeem. Last week after some issues between “The Reem” and StrikeForce, Zuffa released the current Champion and he was removed from the currently on going StrikeForce Heavyweight Grand Prix as well.
Overeem declined to compete in the Grand Prix on shorter notice than he was expecting due to an injury and Zuffa released the fighter. Although Golden Glory feature several stand out fighters, Overeem is clearly their biggest star under the Zuffa label. When Their prize horse left the stable so to speak, Zuffa sent a message to Team Golden Glory and released their remaining fighters from the company.
Many times a big name fighter will have his teammates signed to the organization as a favor; there is no doubt such was the case for Allistair’s brother and possible Einemo who has fought 1 time in 6 years. Although, as for Marloes Coenen, 4 days ago she was the 135lb Female StrikeForce Champion and now she finds herself unemployed.
Being on a team means being part of a family or a united group. With that comes a lot of benefits and perks; with that also comes a lot of negatives and being guilty by association at times. Both have been the case for Team Golden Glory who now finds themselves still a team and still a united front, but now in need of a new home to display their talents.
