MMAprime.tv (MP) recently had a chat with our friend and UFC fighter Charles Oliveira (CO) about him moving from 155 to the 145lbs division.
MP- Charles reports have it that you are moving to the 145lbs division in the UFC
C0- Yes, that is correct. My camp have been pressuring me to move down, I had thought about before but everything was going good in my fight career. Early in my career I had not lost and even had two fights at 170lbs in Brazil. In Brazil it is different no one really does monster weight cuts. When I had my first fight in UFC vs Darrin Elkins, and Efrian Escuduro, I thought my manager booked me in the 170lbs weight class, I could not believe those guys could make 155lbs. I want to be a total MMA fighter, and to do that I have to do big weight cuts like everyone else.
MP- At 6’2” you will be the tallest in the division, and should be on the bigger side of the division. What type of advantages does this give you.”
C0- There is always good and bad in everything. I think it might be nice to be physically the stronger fighter, also I think some of the shorter fighters are going to have some trouble closing the distance on me. It should be a little easier for me to control the pace of the fight,or if the fight stays standing or goes to ground. I am very excited about going to this division and making a push to get a title fight.
MP- What have you been up too since your last fight with Cowboy Cerrone?
CO- The same thing I train at Gold Team, spend time with my family and girlfriend, and support my Gold Team team mates.
MP- Who would you like to fight first in the 145lbs division?
CO- I do not pick my opponents, Who ever they tell me to fight I fight! I would like to fight the champ soon, if my record deserves it.
MP- Anything you would like to say to fans?
CO- I would like to thank God for letting me do what I love to do. I would like to thank my family for there support. And all my GoldTeam teammates for there help
