MEZ Sports returns to Los Angeles with its Pandemonium Fight cards with Pandemonium VII which will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the newly renovated Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, CA. Having successfully promoted sits shows in Riverside, Pandemonium to Los Angeles, where it got its start.
In order to commemorate its return to L.A. and its new relationship with the Hollywood Park Casino, MEZ promoter and MMA matchmaker and boxing matchmaker Tom DiFranchesco have brought its biggest and best card to date. Headlining the scheduled 13 fight card is a 4-man 125lb MMA Tournament culminating in the crowning of the inaugural MEZ Sports Pandemonium Fights Men’s Flyweight Champion during Pandemonium VIII. As with all title fight, MEZ Sports brings in some of the best up-and-coming fighters who are looking to move onto the next level. Since current UFC Flyweight contender Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall and UFC tournament participant made his return to MMA at Pandemonium III, it is only fitting that a Flyweight tournament is held to crown a Pandemonium Flyweight champion.
Competing in the first semi-final bout will be Steve Swanson and Jesse “The Puerto Rican Game Cock” Jesse Cruz. Swanson, brother of UFC featherweight contender Cub Swanson, puts his undefeated record (6-0) against Cruz (6-1) who has 6 victories against 1 defeat, all while fighting in Alaska. Both men are known for their hard charging style with big power. Fans should expect a huge knockout from the victor.
In the other semi-final match, Team Quest’s Federico “Kiko” Lopez (7-6), who has fought against fought against Dream and UFC Norifumi Yamamoto in Japan, will meet Millennia MMA’s Willie Gates (4-2). Gates is hoping to extend his 4 fight winning streak another 2 fights while Lopez, who comes into the tournament as the underdog, says he wants to put a great show for the fans. Lopez says that he knows that Gates wants to “knock his head into the third row” so Lopez will trying to gates head off first.
The stakes for winning the tournament are high as all of the fighters want to win the tournament as they expect victory that will vault the winner into the big leagues like prior MEZ Sports Pandemonium champs, Lorenz Larkin (Strikeforce), Chris Saunders (TUF and Bellator), Roberto Vargas (Bellator Featherweight Tournament), and Adam Lynn (Fighting for MFC Lightweight Title).
On the undercard, TUF Season 15 contestant Jared Carlesten (3-0) will make his return his return to Pandemonium when he faces Mexican fighting star Enrique Briones (11-4) in a 145lb match up. Carlesten made his Pandemonium debut at Pandemonium III with a first round submission of Chris Manzo. Since that fight Carlesten made the final 32 fighters of TUF Season 15 where he lost in the elimination round to Cristiano Marcello. Since that loss, Carlesten has been training waiting for his opportunity to return to the ring. He gets that chance against Briones, who resides in Tijuana, Mexico, and who is making his American debut. Briones is on a 4 fight winning streak with 3 of those fights ending via TKO in the first round. Briones will bring his heavy hands to Inglewood planning to end the fight early. This one has fight of the night written all over it.
Pandemonium Fights are also well-known in the fight community for its well-matched, high-action boxing matches and Pandemonium VII will not disappoint boxing fans. 4 fights are scheduled for Pandemonium VII including Los Angeles resident super middleweight Brandon Adams and Whittier’s featherweight Humberto Zatarain fighting in separate bouts.
Adams (6-0) has yet to taste defeat and faces strong journeyman Moses Alviso in a 4 round fight. Alviso has fought some of the toughest up-and coming fighters in Southern California and has only been stopped once in his 5 professional fights. Coming off a tough majority decision loss on July 27, 2012, Alviso is anxious to get back to wins winning ways. Adams, who bring a large following everywhere he fights, plans to keep his perfect record intact and will do whatever it takes to keep his winning streak alive. Fight fans can expect fireworks when these two meet in the center of the ring.
Zatarain (3-0) is the type of fighter that Pandemonium fans have come to expect to see. Fighting as a featherweight, Zatarain got into boxing to avoid the gangs that approached him as a kid to join. Zatarain knew that there was more to life than that and takes pride that he overcame major odds to be where he is today. Zatarain dreams of being a world champion and won’t let Daniel Martinez (0-1) get in his way. Fans should expect 4 rounds of true boxing skill in the bout.
