Former UFC Champion Lyoto Machida (19-4) is making the drop to middle weight at 185lbs from 205lbs and will face Military Hero Tim Kennedy 16-4). UFC President Dana White made the announcement on Fox Sports Live, during their Wednesday broadcast. Scheduled to take place on November 6th at a Military base in the state of Kentucky, this ends the discussion about Machida’s next move. Dana White had squashed rumors of a fight vs Nick Diaz at middleweight last week, sparking debate over who Machida’s next opponent should be; let alone what weight class that fight would take place at. An interesting fact is that Kennedy is coming off an impressive victory over Roger Gracie, who is a team mate of Machida’s at Black House. One has to wonder if the familiarity of Kennedy over the past months inside their camp had anything to do with the choice. Kennedy has one two straight fights, while Machida is coming off a split decision loss to Phil Davis after having won two straight fights prior to that.
