Cris Cyborg: Unstoppable?

Cris Cyborg: Unstoppable?

Cris Cyborg mauled Jan Finney last night… and without a doubt, Jan deserves some credit for toughing it out, despite having punches, kicks and knees raining down on her almost non-stop. I dont believe that there is a female middleweight that can beat Cyborg at this point. I’ve heard people mention that Cyborg should be fighting men from now on, because it’s just no competition with the females anymore; it’s predictable that Cyborg is going to win whatever fight she’s in.  Dana White really ought to consider allowing females to fight in the UFC, because Cyborg appears to have outgrown her competition in Strikeforce. There are a few other females that I’m sure could do quite well in the UFC… maybe sometime in the next few years we’ll see females fighting in the UFC… maybe… because until there is a tougher field for Cris Cyborg, she’s gonna be unstoppable.

Fedor Emilianenko: Still one of the best heavyweights in MMA

Fedor Emilianenko: Still one of the best heavyweights in MMA

It’s rare to come across a fighter that can take a loss a with humility; Fedor Emilianenko did just that. He made some mistakes in his fight with Fabricio Werdum, and he was beat fair and square. He had my respect before this fight, since he had been practically undefeated, but my respect for him has grown since his loss. He took the loss like a man, and a true fighter. His quote about those that never fall never stand up, was a great quote. It’s one that many people should keep in mind. Of course we all strive to win every fight we go into, but the truth of the matter is, anything can happen, and we may lose. Fedor is truly standing up, and standing tall, even after falling in his loss. Many people could stand to learn from his example- give your opponent the credit they deserve, dont knock them, and learn from your own mistakes. Werdum may have submitted him, but in my mind, Fedor is still one of the absolute top heavyweights in MMA. So he took a loss? Is that really so bad? Many fighters take many more losses than he has. I’m not disappointed with that fight. It was a great win for Werdum, and his wonderful Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was great to watch. But in the end, it was Fedor and his graceful attitude that sealed the deal. Great fight.

Ken flows through all channels of MMA

Ken flows through all channels of MMA

By Sammy Perez-

Often I talk about how far the sport of Mixed Martial Arts has come in the last five years, from a virtual underground society to mainstream acceptance. Obviously a lot of that has to do with the success of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ reality television show that has just completed it’s 11th season and is already on tap to debut it’s 12th season this fall. Go back five years to its first season and many of the fighters on the show that first year have gone on to have successful fight careers, including a couple of world championships, and become household names. However, the one person that has surpassed all of the fighters that season in terms of success, mainstream notoriety and popularity is probably the one least likely expected to do so. As a matter of fact, during and after that first season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, many were openly criticizing and questioning if Kenny Florian was even a legit MMA fighter, let alone UFC material. No one is questioning anymore.

MMA continues to make history as it grows

MMA continues to make history as it grows

By Sammy Perez

While it’s less than 17 years old, the sport of Mixed Martial Arts has already had quite an extensive list of accomplishments and historical moments within its short history. You can now add the date Wednesday June 16, 2010 to that list for not just one, but two reasons. First, it marks the first time ever all four major U.S. MMA promotions will hold live shows within the same week, four shows in five nights. Second, it will go down in history as the day MMA legislation in New York State was passed by the State Senate, though it must go through a couple of more steps before being officially legal and recognized within the state by Governor David Patterson.

Weekend Recap: Evans, Diaz, Bisping win

Weekend Recap: Evans, Diaz, Bisping win

It was a pretty stacked MMA weekend with the UFC Fan expo being held in conjunction with UFC 114: Rampage vs. Evans, as well as DREAM 14, and Bitetti Combat 7 all taking place.

UFC 114:

The much hyped UFC 114 main event which pitted arch rivals Quentin “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans against one another. The rivalry which heated up when both were coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 10 was scheduled to be settled at the end of the season, but when Jackson decided to call his MMA career quits in order to pursue an acting career it seemed we might never get to see them settle the score. Flash forward to this past Saturday, and it was time to settle the rivalry with Jackson having come out of retirement and mass media attention thrown both Jackson and Evans way due to their abilities to talk tremendous amounts of smack towards one another and hype up a fight.

UFC Undisputed 2010: Demo Review

UFC Undisputed 2010: Demo Review

When it was announced that we would be able to download the demo version of UFC Undisputed 2010 nearly a month before it’s release date, we at MMAPrime went coo-coo for cocoa puffs as we headed for the local Game Stop to not only reserve the game but also purchase an XBox Live adaptor. It has been 5 days since http://www.undisputed.com has given out members codes to retrieve the demo and 3 days of having blistered thumbs. It hurts, but in a good way.
