Fedor Emilianenko: Still one of the best heavyweights in MMA

Fedor Emilianenko: Still one of the best heavyweights in MMA

It’s rare to come across a fighter that can take a loss a with humility; Fedor Emilianenko did just that. He made some mistakes in his fight with Fabricio Werdum, and he was beat fair and square. He had my respect before this fight, since he had been practically undefeated, but my respect for him has grown since his loss. He took the loss like a man, and a true fighter. His quote about those that never fall never stand up, was a great quote. It’s one that many people should keep in mind. Of course we all strive to win every fight we go into, but the truth of the matter is, anything can happen, and we may lose. Fedor is truly standing up, and standing tall, even after falling in his loss. Many people could stand to learn from his example- give your opponent the credit they deserve, dont knock them, and learn from your own mistakes. Werdum may have submitted him, but in my mind, Fedor is still one of the absolute top heavyweights in MMA. So he took a loss? Is that really so bad? Many fighters take many more losses than he has. I’m not disappointed with that fight. It was a great win for Werdum, and his wonderful Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was great to watch. But in the end, it was Fedor and his graceful attitude that sealed the deal. Great fight.

When the Dust Settles… Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum

When the Dust Settles… Strikeforce: Fedor vs Werdum

by Adam Lawman

Saturday night packed a punch for sure, but what does all of this mean for MMA and specifically for Strikeforce?

I’ll hypothesize:

Josh Thomson def Pat Healy via Submission, 4:27 into Rd 3

Healy deserves some major props for his performance against Strikeforce’s former lightweight champion. He worked some nice takedowns and and even took a round against Thomson. It wasn’t enough though; Thomson had the better ground game and overcame the wrestling of Healy to score a 3rd round submission win with a rear naked choke.

Fabricio Werdum scores one of the biggest wins in MMA history

Fabricio Werdum scores one of the biggest wins in MMA history

by Adam Lawman

Fabricio Werdum’s walkout took longer than his fight with Fedor Emelianenko did. The Brazilian called “Vai Cavalo” needed only 1 minute and 9 seconds to use his highly credentialed jiu jitsu talents to shock the world of mixed martial arts and prove that the “baddest man on the planet” is merely human.
